A Glimpse of History

FEATURED ARTIST - J. Luis Lozano

Local artist J. Luis Lozano is the Featured Artist at Artifacts Gallery through December.  Most people familiar with Lozano's art know how important and personal each work is to him. The ability to capture a moment in time is evident in his realistic, award winning, and self-taught style. He likes to paint subjects that people can actually relate to and Lozano's work is what many people in Central Virginia might find familiar: like his take on Natural Bridge, Jefferson's Monticello, the James River, Smith Mt. Lake as well as Lynchburg landmarks like the Texas Tavern, The Cavalier and the Batteau Festival. When Lozano came to Virginia he was surrounded by the history he'd only know through books, history that inspired him to paint.

“For me it's not about the applying of paint as much as it is the peeling away the white of the canvas, revealing the image beneath. In the images I created there is an inherent passion revealing a little bit of who I am”
